This privacy policy explains how we collect, use and disclose information about you when you use our mobile application, platform (the “App”), our Web site (the “Site”) and other online products and service that link to this privacy policy (collectively, the “Service”).
Engagement on the platform
No ads. No misuse of data. No sharing of personal info with others.
Your exact location will never be shown to anyone.
Private chats are visible only to the parties involved in the conversation.
All the content you create on Milo (e.g.: meetups, recommendations, questions, comments etc.) except 1:1 chats, is discoverable only to members of your community. It will not be shown to anyone who is not part of your community.
Everytime we make changes to our policy, we’ll update the “last updated date” at the top.
All the data is sent over secure channels using HTTPS.
1-to-1 chats are completely secure. Two users can chat only if they are added as friends on Milo. And you can block any user from your network with a single tap of a button.
You are the owner of your data, profile page, the data you see on your feed and the kind of people you interact with. For instance, you can completely block users from interacting with you in one tap. You can also remove specific comments from your posts, report posts or comments that you find inappropriate.
You can deactivate your account anytime and all your data will be removed. You can request to permanently delete your account by sending a mail to: hello@getmilo.app and we’ll remove all your data from our systems within 48 hours from the date of receiving your request.
Photos, GIFs or Videos you upload will be visible to members of your community on Milo. Please read the terms of use for more details on how this data will be used by Milo.
Milo is a highly secure platform and thrives on providing complete control on privacy. There are many more tools and controls available within the app.
In the future, you may potentially be given a choice to interact with members from other communities on Milo. You will always retain control on who sees your content, interacts with you and visible to you.
Modifications
We may change this privacy policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the date at the top of the policy and, in some cases, provide you with additional notice (such as adding a statement to our homepage or sending you an email notification). We encourage you to review the privacy policy periodically to stay informed about our practices and the ways you can help protect your privacy.
Collection of Information
Information You Provide to Us
We collect information you directly give us. For example, we collect information about you when you sign up for our Service, give feedback about the Service or otherwise communicate with us. The types of information we may collect include your email address, mobile phone number and any other information you choose to provide. When you request the App to find your Friends, we also collect certain information from your contacts on your mobile device, including your contacts’ email addresses and phone numbers, so you can connect with people you know who are already using the App. For information as to how to restrict the collection of contact information, please see the “Your Choices” section below. We may also collect information about you from other users of the Services (for e.g. we may collect your contact details from other users if such details are stored on the user's mobile device). If you choose not to provide certain information, we may not be able to provide the Service to you or certain features of the Service may be unavailable or work differently.
Information We Collect Automatically When You Use the Service
When you access or use our Service, we automatically collect some information about you. This information is solely used by us for debugging and analytical purposes (e.g., to enhance the Service), and it includes:
Log Information: We log information about your use of the Service, including the type of browser you use, access times, IP address, Opinions, Questions viewed, Questions followed, People followed, your Followers.
User’s Contact: We are accessing User’s contact book, with prior consent, to connect user with people from the user’s contact book and who are using milo.
Device Information: We collect information about the mobile device you use to access our Service, including the hardware model, operating system and version, unique device identifiers and mobile network information. This data is not stored, and only used to determine the version of your client in order to serve best visual experience. We use user’s accelerometer to trigger meetup creation with our ‘shake’ feature. User can share pictures through the device’s camera with prior consent.
Location Information: We may collect information about the general location of your Internet Service Provider based on your GPS, WiFi, IP address, or public posts that contain location information. If you allow Milo to access your location information, we may also collect your geolocation information. We use this information to show you people located near you. For information as to how to restrict the collection of geolocation information, please see the “Your Choices” section below.
Information Collected by Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies: We use various technologies to collect information, and this may include sending cookies to your computer or mobile device. Cookies are small data files stored on your hard drive or in device memory that help us to improve our Service and your experience, see which areas and features of our Service are popular and count visits. We may also collect information using web beacons (also known as “tracking pixels”). Web beacons are electronic images that may be used in our Service or emails and help deliver cookies, count visits, understand usage and campaign effectiveness and determine whether an email has been opened and acted upon. For more information about cookies, and how to disable them, please see “Your Choices” below.
Information About the User: When the User is a Registered User or a recipient of the Services, then Milo collects a wide variety of information about the User. For the Services, the User has to provide information to Milo. The answers the Users provide is used by the specialists on the panel of Milo to prepare a personality profile of the User to match it with other compatible partners. All individual responses to the questions about User in the Milo is held strictly confidential, while other non-Personally Identifiable Information (like name, age, gender, occupation, working status, workplace, hometown, college, etc.) is used to build the User's "My Profile". It is possible that details of occupation, working status, workplace, hometown, college and other profile/account information of the User may be displayed to the User's recommended matches. All photo(s) or video(s) provided by the User as part of profile content, the User agrees and confirms that these may be made available to User's matches and users of the Services. Except as otherwise stated in this privacy policy, User personally identifiable information is not disclosed to any third party.
Information Regarding User Friends: The Site encourages Users to refer a friend for the Services by inviting them using their phone numbers. This information remains in our database, and such referred person could be sent a one-time message inviting them to visit the platform. User agrees not to abuse this feature by entering names and addresses of those who would not be interested in the Services.
Use for Verification checks: The User is aware that to continue to receive the Services offered, it has to undertake the mandatory verification checks. The User agrees that information provided for the verification check is true and correct and is being provided voluntarily with complete knowledge of the purpose of its use by Milo and its authorized third party expert Service Provider for such verification. We use third parties for support services, such as SMS service providers for account validation. We send (One Time Password) OTP on user’s phone number through SMS for verification. Aside from the previously mentioned purposes, Milo does not share your data to third-parties without your prior explicit consent.
E-mails and Telephone Calls: User Telephone number is required while registering for the Services. E-mails are used for both transactional (e.g., confirmation for registration with the Site, notifying of matches, etc) and promotional (e.g., newsletters, new services, special discounts, etc.) purposes.
Use of Information
We may use information about you for various purposes, including to:
Provide, maintain and improve our Service;
Provide and deliver the Service you request, process transactions and send you related information, including confirmations;
Send you technical notices, updates, confirmations, security alerts and support and administrative messages;
Respond to your comments, questions and requests and provide customer service;
Communicate with you about products, services, offers, promotions, rewards and events offered by Milo and others, and provide news and information we think will be of interest to you;
Monitor and analyze trends, usage and activities in connection with our Service and improve and personalize the Service;
Personalize and improve the Service and provide content or features that match user profiles or interests;
Link or combine with information we get from others to help understand your needs and provide you with better service; and
Connect you with other users in your Contacts.
Storage of Information
The information you provide to Milo is encrypted and stored on physically secure servers. Some details for the technically-minded:
It’s written almost entirely in Python, but has various components in C++ and JavaScript.
We use a highly-available, relational and a non-relational datastore built on top of one of the most advanced database technologies MySQL and Aerospike.
All message data is encrypted before being written to the datastore.
Images are stored privately and securely in Amazon’s Cloud Storage datastore and served over SSL from Amazon’s image frontend service.
Your information is stored only as long as necessary to accomplish the purposes described in this privacy policy. We store log information collected for debugging purposes in seven-day temporary storage. We store other information you provide to us for as long as you maintain an account with Milo. You may delete your account at any time by sending a mail to us at: hello@getmilo.app. When you delete your account, your information will be deleted from our system within thirty days.
Sharing of Information
We may share aggregated or de-identified information or non-personal about you as follows or as otherwise described in this privacy policy:
With other users of the Service (including those not on your contacts) by providing them with your similarities, name, profile picture, gender, hometown, college, workplace, working status, designation and your general location (if you have enabled us to collect your location).
We may also share information (which may at times include personal information) about you as follows:
With vendors, consultants and other service providers who need access to such information to carry out work on our behalf;
In connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of Milo assets, financing or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company;
In response to a request for information if we believe disclosure is in accordance with any applicable law, regulation or legal process, or as otherwise required by any applicable law, rule or regulation;
If the content can reasonably be considered illegal or unlawful (or it seems like the Post is being used to engage in, encourage or promote such activities), in which case we may report your identity to proper authorities in order to protect the rights, property and safety of Milo, our users and/or others; and
With your consent or at your direction, including if we notify you through our Service that the information you provide will be shared in a particular manner and you provide such information.
Note that if you choose to include information about you in your Posts, such information will be shared with other users of the Service who receive such Posts as described in this privacy policy. We suggest that you do not include any identifiable information about you in your Posts. Also, please note that if you or other users choose to share a Post through a third party, such as Facebook, Twitter or an email client, any further collection and sharing of that Post by such third party or its users will be governed by that third party’s privacy policy, and we cannot control what any third party does with any Posts or other information that is shared with third parties.
How We Respond to Subpoenas from Courts
While we make it difficult to do so, it is still technically possible for us to connect your Posts with your email address, phone number, or other personal data you have provided to us. This means that if a court asks us to disclose your identity, we may be compelled to do so. If we do happen to receive a subpoena or court order requesting that we disclose your information, we will attempt to contact you if reasonably feasible before we disclose any information to give you time to fight the subpoena in court.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information about you from loss, theft, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction.
Analytics Services Provided by Others
We may allow third parties to provide analytics services to us. These entities may use cookies, web beacons and other technologies to collect information about your use of the Service, including your IP address, Questions answered, Questions viewed, time spent on Questions or People, Messaging information. This information may be used by us and others to, among other things, analyze and track data, determine the popularity of certain content and better understand your online activity.
Retention of Personal Information
Milo will only retain personal information about you for as long as it is necessary for the purposes described in this privacy policy. When Milo determines that we are no longer using the personal information, we will destroy or permanently erase such personal information.
Your Choices
Account Information
If you wish to delete your account, you need to write to us at: hello@getmilo.app. Note that we may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes as may be necessary to fulfill the purposes identified in the privacy policy. We may also retain cached or archived copies of information about you for a certain period of time.
Cookies
Most web browsers are set to accept cookies by default. If you prefer, you can usually choose to set your web browser to remove or reject browser cookies. Removing or rejecting browser cookies does not necessarily affect third party flash cookies used in connection with the Service. To delete or disable flash cookies please visit www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/security for more information. Please note that if you choose to remove or reject cookies, this could affect the availability and functionality of the Service.
Push Notifications and Alerts
With your consent, we may send push notifications or alerts to your mobile device. You can deactivate these messages at any time by changing the notification settings on your mobile device.
Accessing and Correcting Information about You
